Ok, I gave in! I had been trying to lose weight, get fit, be happier and generally more fulfilled for years. Don’t misunderstand, I have a great job, great family, few but loyal friends - I just wasn’t as fit and healthy as I’d expected to be.
I was tired, overweight, unfit (can’t run a mile) and generally in a state of disrepair.
So then it hit me. I knew I had to lose a bit of weight but when my doctor said I had to lose around 12kgs I was a little staggered.
I’ve been around 85kg to 87kg for over 10 years - and weight stability s a good thing - expect when it’s stably over what I am supposed to be.
So, ahem, off to Jenny Craig to get into a good routine of eating as a first step but there was another step.
And nothing could get me to do this but me. I had to run, get fit, tone up. (Don’t worry, as much as I am enjoying the Jenny Craig diet this is not an advertorial!)
I had to do that on my own.
But then I stopped by Leo Barbauta’s blog (as I do when I need a lift) and he mentions his new training blog.
Normally I would drop on by anyway but with my current situation it became more relevant. I read through his process and was, again, quite excited by what he was doing. He is running another marathon in December, I am looking to complete a Triathlon (my first) next March.
So, for those of you who may come across this blog I AM copying Leo, unashamedly! Why? Because I need to get healthier and Leo presents information so well. The blog itself is a type of accountability as well as a compliment to Leo.
I suggested to Leo he might have started an “online virtual franchise” called “nameruns”. I had to use my initials because someone has already taken “billruns!”
Not to worry. This will do.
So, I’ll be adding my thoughts comments and activities here.
If you want to keep track (and keep me on track) I’d welcome any comments or thoughts you may have. I really need to do this. I just feel I am missing a lot of enjoyment due to the weight and lack of fitness.
The weirdest thing is, I’m at a stage where I don’t know what true fitness feels like anymore. That is BAD!!
Come back soon.
Bill
