It was partly due to not sticking to my diet.
It was partly due to looking for a prettier route.
It was partly to do with extending myself and building my stamina.
So I completed a 10km run around the bridges in Perth. It was a glorious day too. As the picture attests to. (though I take frickin’ awful pictures!)
Interestingly, I didn’t start off too well and found myself out of breath quite quickly. This was just a run to be completed, not a race. So I wasn’t too sure why I was feeling the way I did. I decided to settle into a 3min walk / 3 min run process. This would give me time to catch my breath as well as maintain a good pace.
My goal was to complete the 10km in an hour - or close to it.
I stopped to take the photo as well as a quick drink and in the end the time was 1hr 1 min 17 secs. So I was pretty happy with that.
I also developed a blister on the inside of my foot. How on earth I get a blister there I have no idea.
I also wore skins top and bottom so that caused me to heat up a fair bit and may have slowed me down. I only wore them thinking it would be cold, which it wasn’t. However, it helps me lose weight.
The run is pretty flat so here was no hill climbing of any note. I need to start doing that as I also measured the starting distance in the upcoming Perth City to Surf and it’s around 900m to 1 km. So I’ll need to practice my stamina on hill starts.
The plan is to runt the 10km each week and do the shorter runs during the week. Hopefully that will help me build my stamina as well as keep up the habit of running.
Below is a map of the run:

So now I’ve done this and am getting ready for the City to Surf, I’d like to go for a formal 5km race to see how I go. I’ve joined the WA Marathon Club (well, form still has to go in) but I’ll know when the races will occur and get involved. I’m thinking that running with others will help my pace.
Stay Tuned!
Bill
