Day 120 – Reality Check!

by Bill Wallace on August 3, 2008

Bad week, bad week! (shakes head!)

I am blaming the weather this week. I generally take all the blame myself but I am not going to allow other conspirators to get away that easily!

However, the reality is the diet is no longer “fun” and I need a bit more resolve not to dig into the cookie (viz lolly, chocolate, licorice, popcorn (caramelised) jar!

The good news, kind of, is that I am itching to run and getting a bit “toey” when I can’t!

On the subject of running …

Only one day of training between the race last Sunday and today. Admittedly is was 6.19kms of hill and in driving rain but “one day doth not make a training regimen!”

Weather today is brighter, no rain on the horizon though the wind is cold and brisk!

The FBH and I are in a cool coffee shop called ExoMod. Great coffee and free wireless internet. There should be more like this! :)

The plan from here is to sit back and relax, blog a bit, browse a bit and then head home via a run.

I’ve mapped it out via Map My Run and it’s around 13.7km. I’m figuring on 90 minutes to get it done with some walking and running on the way (maybe some stopping too! :) )

Last Week’s Race Results

I got the official results and they clocked me at 24:50 (I recorded 24:49) I also came 4th in my age group (45+) so I was pretty happy with that. The guy who won did it in around 20 minutes from memory so I have a bit to go in terms of fitness. Good thing to aim for.

Why I’ve Been Quiet Blogging

One word: work! The last two weeks have been pretty intense and the next few promise much the same. This pressure, and not a little anxiety, have caused the creative juices to dry up a little as I get home, watch some comedy for light relief and retire to bed around 9:30. (glad you know my nightly habits? :) )

However, time has not stood still. The FBH and I celebrate 25 years of marriage next year and are planning a trip to Italy – her home country. It has long been a goal of mine to be able to work on the road and not be tied to an office. So I have a few plans that I’d like to get off the ground and maybe use the trip as a trial for that lifestyle. Easier said that done, I admit.

The next few months will see a few trials of software, mobile blogging etc to see what I can do here in Australia and then determine whether I can make a small living out of it. (small may be the operative word)

I’ll post more on this later.

Wow – that sounds like a whole lifestyle change, and a great one too. Hope you can make it work for you!

I’ll be interested to hear more about the lifestyle change as well.

Good to see you are itching to run!

Hi Guys, I am looking forward to it too. Though there is a lot of work to be done in the interim. Not sure whether to start a new blog on it or include it here. Probably best to start a new one.
