Firstly, an apology to everyone who received feeds titled “test” and “Angie”. I’ve been looking for a way to blog from my mobile and tried out “Cellspin“ on my Nokia N95 8GB. Works great. I just forgot momentarily that what I posted would get sent to the world! Again, if you got those 2 posts, my apologies.
It’s (almost) winter so that means field hockey has started!
Yesterday I wandered down to my old social hockey club, not convinced that I should start playing again but just to see how I felt when I got there. I took my gear (sans stick!
) and signed up for the season!
Luckily my daughter found my stick at home and brought it down, the treasure!
I also used my Polar RS200 and heart rate strap to see how my calories and heart rate would fare under these circumstances of “Stop-Go”. (I now know what “match fitness” means!)
It was good to have the run and I am sure I’ll get better as the season progresses (and they mow the fields – sheesh, it really was like a paddock!)
But my Polar told an interesting story. Good periods in some of the high impact zones and quite a few calories burnt even though I wasn’t playing the whole game as we had opportunities for substituting – which I gladly took at times.
- Avg HR – 140bpm
- Max HR – 176bpm
- Zone 1 – 00:47
- Zone 2 – 10:06
- Zone 3 – 15:52
- Zone 4 – 17:03
- Zone 5 – 15:16
- Calories – 521
I was worried that the stop-start nature of the game may not have that level of effect so I’m happy that it does. It means that, with my running and swimming, I can easily add hockey to my regime for some impact. It will be interesting to see how my match fitness affects these figures as they season progresses.
