Mixing it Up 2

by Bill Wallace on October 15, 2009

Into week 2 of the HH which means 3 runs of 3 miles and then the “long run” of 7 miles this Saturday.

The two runs this week so far have been contrasts.

Run 1 Tuesday morning, 5kms – this was a good run. I stretched beforehand (something I don’t normally do) and then headed out with another significant change … no music! Yes folks, there was no beat in my ears this time. I was going to focus on pace, stride, breathing etc and trying to actually keep the pace low. I didn’t care how long this run took, just as long as I ran the whole way. Which I did! Yay!

Time: 31:38

I was very pleased and felt quite good afterwards. I even stopped for a couple of early morning photos just as the sun was coming up.

earlymorning

Run 2 – Wednesday evening, 5kms – This was after work and I was feeling pretty good and looking forward to it. I dutifully stretched, ditched the music and headed out. This time the calves hurt, the feet hurt. So it was a run and a walk. Might be because I run better in the morning, might be old age, might be that I’m soft!

But, I did the 5kms and at the moment that’s what counts.

Time: 37:07

Another run tonight to complete the 3 runs this week before Saturday’s 7 miler.

Hope you are all running well.

It is amazing how different one run can be from the next isn’t it!

It’s weird huh. just last night I went for my third run, it was quite warm when I headed out (26C at 7:30pm) and I decided to just run and not worry about time technique or anything … much better!

Wow! Inspiring stuff- I have to admit that I have dutifully avoided running, I can see that it’s a great cardio workout and can be FUN! I’m very much of the opinion that exercise needs to be enjoyable in order to keep it up.
