Races for 2010

by Bill Wallace on January 9, 2010

In addition to setting some personal goals for running and weight management, I decided to also run one race per month. These are listed in the 2010 Races page above and I plan to lodge the race time as each race is completed.

The plan?

Complete all the races and improve the distance run this year to 1,000+ kms.

What I don’t know is how I will recover after each, particularly the Marathon in June. We’ll play that one by ear. But apart from the marathon, each race is basically 10km which now what I run as exercise so I think there will be few recovery issues.

Diet

I also found that, after being in Europe for 5 weeks my diet improved. Less coffee, lots of walking and generally healthy food. Even when we went to the Golden Arches the thought was to eat based on what we had to do that day (we generally only went to Maccas for breakfast!) Since I’ve been back I’ve already noticed a less effective diet creeping in.

Special Mention – Maccas in Munich

What an efficient outfit in Munich! Clean, ironed and well worn uniforms. Efficient service without being over the top. Even when they were busy (and I mean packed) there was no flustered staff that I could see.

I was going to talk to the manager and get a photo but when I went to do that they were absolutely flat out.

Something the Australian version would do well to emulate. (Just a thought! :) )

That first race is not too far away!
Good luck with the plan, I always feel better once it’s written down – even better when the entry form is lodged!

Very true on the lodgement part. I’ve added a 7 day reminder to all race dates. :) no excuses now!

This sounds exciting! I have this dream of running a triathlon. One summer, I ran, biked and swam just to keep myself fit. But since I’ve married, keeping fit just took on the backseat.

But not this year! Late last year, I discovered my old Schwinn (http://schwinnusa.com/allschwinn_3403201_B0021I150I_Schwinn-Coronado-Womens-Comfort-Bike-26-Inch-Wheels.html) in our garage–and made me remember how much I love biking around the neighborhood. This year, I’m going to do everything that I used to love about keeping fit. When it gets warmer, I’m going to take my bike out for a spin!

Getting into it can be hard and even harder to maintain. My better half has a similar bike to yours. Just packing it in the car can be a pain in the a$$ :) Hang in there though, one day at a time …
